Walk-about

1st day back, since the birthday injury. I tell you what, I am glad that I did it (my 4 mile walk this morning) but it was quite difficult! I think that the combination of it being Monday, the fact that I haven't worked out in about 2 weeks AND trying to go easy on my right foot made for a pretty hard workout. I don't think it was bad for my tendon so my plan is to walk again tonight. Hopefully this morning loosened me back up!

Keith posed an interesting question, or rather presented some information that had me curious. He's heard that you only want to walk about 3 times a week if your goal is weight loss, because you need to give your body a chance to relax, catch up, heal. I have heard this about lifting weights (you don't want to work out the same muscles two days in a row) but never about walking. So I looked it up and this is the answer I found;

If you are walking for the general health benefits try to walk 30 minutes a day, most days of the week, at a "talking" pace. (Talking pace means you have elevated breathing, but you can still carry a conversation.)To improve cardiovascular fitness you should walk 3 to 4 days a week, 20 to 30 minutes at a very fast pace. At this pace you are breathing hard but not gasping for air.If you are walking for weight loss you should walk a minimum of five days a week, 45 to 60 minutes at a brisk pace.
